The first five meets of the season had many different looks. From flat and hilly courses to cool and very warm temperatures, Glenrock High School athletes ran through most everything.

That was until their annual trip Oct. 4 to the Brittany Rentas Memorial XC Meet in Wright. For the first time, wet conditions and rain greeted runners but it did nothing to slow progress at Haycreek Golf Course.

The Herders were not slowed one bit as seven runners set personal records. The competition included teams from Lusk, Moorcroft, Wright and Rocky Mountain but it was more of a dual with just two full squads in both boys and girls.

Glenrock captured first place in both races. Wright was second in boys, while Lusk was runner-up on the girls side.

Boys

In a day with new best times set on all the teams, it was a Wright standout who had the biggest milestone of all. Junior Tobyn Teigyn not only won the day but did it in an impressive new course record time of 16:54.06.

There was a lot of purple after Teigen as Glenrock owned the next to four places with four top-five performances. Junior Owen Partridge was the leader of the pack, earning second place in a PR time of 18:29.15.

Koi Horn is no stranger to finishing among the elite. The sophomore did so again by running his way to third in 18:34.01.

The next two GHS talents were just 18 seconds apart. Junior Michael Schowengerdt nailed fourth with a 20:24.56, just ahead of junior Colter Lewis in fifth at 20:44.26.

Sophomore Nick Ticknor was next to find his way across the finish line with a 22:10.32, just 16 seconds ahead of freshman teammate Ethan Stanfield who pinned a PR of 22:26.06.

Freshman Charlie Halvorsen added to the list personal bests when he made it happen in 23:13.42. GHS sophomore Carson Tomlin was next 23:26.29, while sophomore Lane Repshire clocked a PR of 23:46.01 and senior Manny Coulter inked a 24:41.03.

Girls

Three of the four Herders left Wright with a new time to chase in the final four weeks of the season. All ran well and had something to do with beating Lusk by four points for the title.

The front of the race looked a lot like it did two weeks ago in Glenrock, with senior Gillian Holman and sophomore Kennley Blackburn running shoulder to shoulder throughout. They provide a boost for each other and it paid off once again

Though separated by a fraction of a second, Holman took home fifth with a new PR of 23:36.08. Blackburn also ran the best time of her career and was just an eyelash behind at 23:36.33.

Senior Lucy Ticknor had a great day and completed the three-mile race with a season best as well of 25:22.91 to finish ninth overall. Sophomore Maggie Halvorsen was next and stopped the watch in 25:46.91.

Maci Lyons of Lusk had the quickest in taking top honors in 20:54.98.
