Main Street needs just $700k more to raise after great turn out at Casino Night

Glenrock Main Street (GMS) raised an impressive $27,000 Saturday at the Casino Night in the Rec Center, a fundraiser which will benefit the new Glenrock Veterans Park.
Even more impressive is that four members of the Main Street Board pulled off the event. Jeannie Boord (chair), Debra Genger (vice-chair), Candy Benedetta (treasurer) and Melody Dugan, (director) are the hard-working women behind the night of fabulous food, drinks and gambling for fun that approximately 150 people took part in.
Benedetta said the money came from tickets sales, donations, and the silent auction items.
The park will be a lasting tribute to Glenrock’s veterans, containing granite pillars, bronze statues and commemorative bricks that will honor the brave men and women who served our country – and have a connection to our community, according to the GMS Facebook page.
In the meantime, the dynamic group of volunteers continue their mission without pause, knowing the park will come to fruition in the matter of a short time.
“Today we’re at $1,050,000 after the event this weekend. We’re shooting for $1,750,000,” Benedetta confirmed Monday afternoon.
“The Glenrock Main Street Casino night . . . was a huge success! Everyone had a great time, the food was awesome and we had great prizes and auction items.”
It turns out the success of the event was also contributed to by several other entities, as well. Casino Party USA provided the roulette, poker and other gaming tables, and the scrumptious savory finger foods and desserts were prepared by Rosie’s Cantina. The 4-Aces, Rusty’s Knotty Pine and Fort Diablo provided bars for adult beverages.
$1,000 was awarded to the person with the most casino chips at the end of the night. While the name of the winner was not released, Benedetta said that individual donated $500 of their prize back to the GMS for the Veterans Park fund.
“We are very happy with how it turned out. The community of Glenrock and surrounding areas showed up once again because they are committed to make the Glenrock Veterans Park a success. We heard comments like, ‘This needs to be an annual event!’ and ‘The food provided by Rosie’s was excellent!’”
Benedetta acknowledged the many donations they received from local businesses and individuals for the silent auction, as well as a grant from the Converse County Tourism & Promotion Board for advertising.
“Stay tuned for our next event in the spring. We are always looking at creative ways of raising funding for the project while providing something fun and entertaining for our community,” she stated.
