March means St. Patrick’s Day – and the Ides of March, when Caesar was slain – and Women’s History Month!
Stop in and pick up a novel, biography, a film, or audiobook celebrating women! Perhaps you have just begun Lent, and have given up something for the season. Or, maybe you have decided rather than quit something for the holy season, you’ll add in something positive, such as kindness or gratitude, or charity. You might be a gardener and are eager to begin planning! We are also excited and readying our free seed libraries.
Your Converse County Libraries have a lot of leprechaun mischief going on this month (the good kind), that is all about rainbows and luck, and the wearin’ o’ the green!
For adults, we have an upcoming Rainbow Needlefelting Class, where we will create a magical rainbow out of colored wool. This could be a gift for a friend, a decoration for you home, or the center piece of a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day Wreath!
The classes will be from 6-8 p.m. on March 12 in Glenrock, and on March 13 in Douglas. The libraries will provide all of the materials, although if you have your own supplies feel free to bring them. There is no charge for these classes, but we do ask that you RSVP at 436-2573 (Glenrock), 358-3644 (Douglas), or email tlehner@conversecountylibrary.org
The Adult Book & Brew clubs are meeting this month, CCL Douglas met on March 4 to discuss Lady MacBeth at The College Inn in honor of Women’s History Month. CCL Glenrock will meet on March 9 at 1 p.m. at The Fort Diablo to discuss the sequel to Chocolat: “The Girl With No Shadow,” by Joanne Harris. These clubs always welcome new members. Use the contact info previously given to reach us for more info.

CCL Glenrock always has activities for kids and teens on No School Fridays. And, there are StoryWalk installations in both communities: Douglas, along the river in Bob Williamson Park, and in Glenrock’s Town Park along the Creekside path. StoryWalks help families to get outdoors and walk along, while reading a children’s storybook in stands along the path.
There are also art installations in both libraries, “Dreams in Bloom in Douglas,” and “Two Minutes to Midnight” and the “Architecture of Armageddon” in Glenrock, both on display through the month of May. Additionally in Glenrock, we have our Mardi Gras Shoebox Float Parade up through March 8 at least, where the public may vote on their favorite floats!
