There’s lots of magic happening at your Converse County libraries as we approach St. Patrick’s Day!

KIDS’ ACTIVITIES

The youngsters in Douglas are making shamrock wands during Youth DIY on Wednesday, March 12 from 4-5 p.m., and Leprechaun Traps during Full STEAM Ahead activities on Monday, March 17 from 4-5 p.m.

PBS, CAT IN THE HAT TO VISIT LIBRARIES

We are very excited about a big event coming up at our libraries for kids and their families as Wyoming PBS hits the road touring with one of the all-time favorite Dr. Seuss characters, Cat in the Hat!

The fab feline and his friends will be at the Douglas Library on Tuesday, March 18 from 4-5 p.m., and in Glenrock during Storytime on Wednesday, March 19, from 10-11 a.m. Kids will get to meet the Cat in person, listen to a story and even have a photo opportunity with him while the interactive program promotes the joy of reading and the importance of literacy in children’s lives.

These programs are sponsored by Wyoming PBS. They are free and open to the public. Snacks will be served.

ADULT ACTIVITIES

Adult events coming up this month include a free Rainbow Needlefelting Class in Glenrock on Wednesday, March 12 from 6-8 p.m., and in Douglas on Thursday, March 13 from 6-8 p.m. Sign up for these classes at 436-2573 (Glenrock), 358-3644 (Douglas), or email tlehner@conversecountylibrary.org

There will be a free Diamond Art Bookmark Class at CCL Glenrock Tuesday, March 25, and on Thursday, March 27, both from 6-8 p.m. Sign up for these and other classes at the numbers or email listed above.

A popular adult craft class is coming back this year, our annual Ukrainian Easter Egg decorating class with instructor and third-generation Ukrainian, Lisa McDonald. Look for more information to come about the holiday events, which will be coming up in early April.

EXHIBITIONS

As always, there are more to your libraries than books, audiobooks, movies, magazines and such, though those are all wonderful things!

We have two amazing art exhibits up in Converse County through May. In Douglas you can peruse the powerful and colorful self-portraits of self-taught Canary Island artist, Fares Micue, titled Dreams in Bloom. In Glenrock, don’t miss the eerily fascinating photographic study on the cold-war era in America, Two Minutes to Midnight and the Architecture of Armageddon.

MARDI GRAS

SHOEBOX PARADE

Also on display at the Glenrock Library is our whimsical Mardi Gras Shoebox Parade!

The floats have been created by library staff, patrons, youngsters, and one local business. We thank Crossroads Veterinary Services for their darling Party Like an Animal float. We are still accepting floats if anyone wants to bring one in, and we even have an entry from our sister library in Douglas. It was the only entry in the Jackalope City, and we didn’t want it to have to parade by itself!

The parade will be up at least through March 15. The public is invited to vote for their favorite adult entry, and for their favorite children’s float. You may also look on the CCL Glenrock Facebook page, and vote for your favorites in the comments. We have prizes for the winners.

We invite our Douglas neighbors up the highway to come see it or to vote from the FB page for your favorites. The Douglas float entry is No. 7, There’s Snow Place like N’Awlins. The Snowman sings “I’m a Snow-Man!” to the tune of “Soul Man.”

You can find current information on our programs, activities and events at the libraries in the ad in this newspaper, on our website at yourccl.org, our respective FB pages and the printed calendar available at the first floor service points.

Our business hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. We are closed on Sundays.
