We can hardly believe that March is almost here at the Converse County libraries!

The Converse County Library Board Meeting for February will be held in meeting room one of the Douglas Library Feb. 28 starting at 9:30 a.m.

ADULT

PYSANKY CLASSES

March 5 from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the CCL Douglas MakerSpace, we will host one of our most popular adult craft classes, Pysanky, or Ukrainian Easter Egg Decorating.

Our special guest for the class will be our good friend, third-generation Ukrainian Lisa McDonald. We will learn the ancient art of “writing” on eggs with wax, then dying them in a series of color baths to create the striking and immediately recognizable traditional old-world eggs, tiny works of art which Ukrainian families have been creating and passing down the techniques to others for generations.

The Pysanky class in Glenrock will be March 6 from 6-9 p.m. in the meeting hall next door to the library.

The Converse County Libraries are paying for the instruction for the classes, but there will be a $10 fee for the materials, payable to Lisa at the door.

We do ask that you sign up for your seat in the class at 358-3644 (Douglas), 436-2573 (Glenrock), or email tlehner@conversecountylibrary.org

These classes tend to be popular, so please register ASAP.

EASTER

CARD CRAFTS

We will also have free Easter card making classes for adults March 14 from 6-8 p.m. in Douglas and March 19 from 6-8 p.m. in Glenrock. Folks may sign up for those at the numbers or email listed above.

FOR KIDS

We have weekly events for kids such as Storytimes on Wednesdays (10-11 a.m.) in Douglas, and on Wednesdays and Thursdays (10-11 a.m.) in Glenrock.

Teens have clubs and classes for cooking, crafting and more such as movies, D&D meetups, laser tag and game nights. They may access video games and VR glasses any time in the teen areas when we are open.

ART EXHIBITS

There are two wonderful art exhibits currently housed in your local libraries and we hope that you will catch them before they leave!

Each is scheduled to run through mid-March and are not to be missed.

In Douglas, there is a show called A Colorful Dream, designed by the artist to “evoke and capture a sense of childhood fantasy.” The work consists of dream-like photography by contemporary fine-art photographer Adrien Broom. The Huffington Post describes her work as “deeply rooted in fairy tales and mythology, reinterpreting figures like Aphrodite and stories like Goldilocks and the Three Bears.”

This show takes you on a beautiful journey through fantastical images and symbolic color.

In Glenrock, we have a photography show as well, this one comes to us through the auspices of The Wyoming State Historical Preservation Office, and was made possible by Wyoming Humanities.

It is titled Barn Here, and showcases many historic and beautifully evocative barns found around the Cowboy State.

Evidently, according to the curator of the exhibit, Wyoming barns, “differ greatly in style and function from barns in many other parts of the United States.”

Stop by and see why during this fascinating exhibit through mid-March at the CCL Glenrock. These art exhibits are a product of our dedicated library board who had a vision of featuring art in our buildings, and our Art Exhibitions Manager, Chevy Walton.

We always provide timely information on our activities and events for all ages through our weekly ad in this newspaper, online at our website at yourccl.org or on our respective Converse County Library Facebook pages. In addition, we print calendars that you may pick up at your branch’s service points.

The Converse County libraries are open Mon.-Weds. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and closed Sundays.
