Library News for the week of April 21, 2021

April is full of many things to celebrate! We mark National Gardening Month, National Poetry Month, and Earth Day. April also brings the yearly Shakespeare’s Birthday celebration April 23rd!

CCL Glenrock has a wonderful display of poetry volumes to peruse. We also post opportunities online to take part in National Poetry Month activities. Check out the website of the Academy of American Poets at poets.org for writing classes and readings, and you may even download the poem-a-day, which features a new poem daily in April. Another site is the New York Public Library  at nypl.org/spotlight/poetry-month which offers free poetry workshops, lectures and readings.

On April 23 at 7 p.m. for Shakespeare’s Birthday CCL is hosting a free Zoom Movie Night. The Folger Shakespeare Library is screening a modern interpretation of Romeo & Juliet from the UK’s National Theatre, starring The Crown’s Josh O’Connor and Chernobyl’s Jessie Buckley as star-crossed lovers. On April 27th from 6-8 p.m. we’re offering a free “Gardening to Attract Nectar Junkies” (honeybees, butterflies and hummingbirds) class taught by Master Gardener Becky Harris. Please register ASAP as above. Socially distanced seating is limited. Masks are encouraged.

Other events include children’s in-person Storytime now held on Wednesdays and Thursdays in the CCL Meeting Hall from 10-11 a.m. Seating is limited, please reserve a place with Miss Rita at 436-2573. Each week for teens we offer Game Night on Thursdays from 6-8 p.m., and D&D meetups Fridays from 4-7 p.m.

The Adult Gratitude Journaling Group is April 26 via Zoom at 6:30 p.m.
