The holiday season is off and running, with Christmas about two weeks away, and Hanukkah beginning on the evening of Dec. 14. There are lots of activities for all ages planned for this frosty season, and we invite you to partake in what you can.
Our Adult Book & Brew Club will meet Saturday, Dec. 13, at 10:30 a.m. at Ft. Diablo. We will be discussing the Pulitzer-Prize winning novel, “March,” by Geraldine Brooks. This celebrated novel is the story of Father March, of “Little Women” fame, away from his beloved family during the Civil War. There will also be a white elephant gift exchange during the meeting for the members.
Monday, Dec. 15, the Adult Food for Thought Cookbook Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. for a dinner (provided by the library) and our annual cookie exchange.
For the kids we have Storytime on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10-11 a.m., and an exciting Santa Celebration in the MakerSpace on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 11 a.m. to noon.
The teens may look forward to making festive Cricut Christmas mugs Dec. 11 from 6-7 p.m., and their highly anticipated D&D Meetup on Friday from 4-6 p.m.
We are very much looking forward to our annual Polar Express City Lights Bus Tour, which is coming up this year on Tuesday, Dec. 16!
We are taking reservations now for three departures that evening, at 5 p.m., 6:15 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. Folks come to the library half-an-hour before they depart for cocoa and cookies. We ask that you sign up ASAP at 436-2573 or via email to tlehner@conversecountylibrary.org -- we often are fully booked!
We encourage everyone to wear pyjamas, just like in the film, and you can bring blankets for the journey. Once we board the bus, we ride around Glenrock, singing Christmas carols and looking at holiday lights. It’s a magical time, free for all ages. This event is co-sponsored by the wonderful folks at the Converse County School District No. 2, who generously provide the bus and driver for the Polar Express.
There is so much to see and do at the library in December, it’s hard to keep track!
Folks may hunt for the Elf on the Shelf each day to see where she is hiding, and you’ll want to look at the entries in this year’s Christmas Tree Festival to cast your vote. We have our annual giving tree available for the generous of heart, and a scavenger hunt around the library for all ages.
Our yearly Holiday Book Sale (sales are by donation, should you wish) is Dec. 8-20. Additionally, Dec. 12-13 we are holding a craft swap! Stop in and get some fun new projects for the New Year for free (or by donation). We have craft books, magazines, patterns, kits and more.
To find out more details about all of the activities at the CCL Glenrock, you may check out the weekly ad in this newspaper, our website at yourccl.org, our FB page, or the printed monthly calendar available at our service points.
We are open M, T, W, F from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and closed on Sundays.
Happy Hanukkah!
