Hightail it to the library this week and get registered for Converse County Library’s summer reading programs for all ages The theme this year is “Tails and Tales.”

We’re having a Summer Reading Kick-Off Party June 4. Join us in the morning with children’s author Gayle Irwin from 10-11 a.m. Bring the kids to meet Gayle and hear her read from her popular books! From 4-7 p.m. in the courtyard we’ll continue the fun with yard games, a bouncy house, face painting and free refreshments. Our own Oompa Loompas will be selling their delicious wares, and we’ll  feature musical entertainment by the ever-popular Chad Lore.

The library will be collecting donations all summer to benefit the Laramie Peak Animal Shelter. We are planning author events, concerts, full-moon hikes, movies and crafts to satisfy every audience. Highlights for adults include a Zoom presentation by best-selling author, licensed psychotherapist, ordained minister, Shamanic practitioner and former college professor Dr. Steven Farmer June 22; a Zoom book discussion of Pulitzer Prize-nominated author Lydia Millet’s Mermaids in Paradise July 6, and a formal tea hosted by a real Wyoming mermaid for mothers, daughters, and others, July 24.

Summer concerts will include music by two of our favorite performers: J-Bird Shogren for Hot July Nights on July 2, and Joey Leone with “The History of the Blues in America” on July 14. In addition, we are sponsoring the two extremely talented Wyoming Arts Council Music Fellowship recipients, Abby Webster and Aaron Davis, to play at Deer Creek Days during the Brew Fest downtown on June 26.

Our Teen Horror Club is working on making a movie this summer; also upcoming for that group is a  drop-in, hydro-dipping craft anytime during business hours June 8-12. Adults have their own free drop-in MakerSpace craft to create a beautiful luminary from June 1-12, then Cookbook Club June 7, a potluck, 6:30 p.m. in the meeting hall. The theme this time is family favorite recipes from your childhood.

Our Book & Brew Club for adults is reading a non-fiction selection, Helen McDonald’s widely acclaimed description of her journey of healing from her father’s death by adopting and training a temperamental goshawk, H is for Hawk. Books are available to sign out at the main floor service point.
