Ever since the Wyoming High School Activities Association decided to postpone, then cancel spring sports across the state, we here at the Glenrock Independent have been trying to highlight local seniors who are missing their last chance to participate in sports and activities with their friends.
Many on the Glenrock Track & Field team were excited to set personal records and place higher at the regional and state tournament than they have in years past.
This is their feelings in their own words:
"I kind of saw it coming when school got shut down from all the craziness that’s been happening. It was sad because it is my last year and I was looking forward to running with my friends and trying to make it to state one last time. I’ve been trying to find the positive, keep my head up and plan for the future ahead. I’ve been making sure I’m texting my friends and classmates asking how they’re doing and just try to keep everything positive throughout this time.” – Cole Thornock
"This year I was very excited to do track it’s one of my favorite sports. We only got to do one week of practice, so after being excited about the season all year then not being able to do it is disappointing, but they still send us workouts we can do at home so that’s nice.” – Peyton Shadrick
"I was honestly heartbroken, my sprinting coach told me I had a chance to place at the regional and state tournaments for the 200 meter. It really killed me but I guess that is just the luck of the draw or whatever.” – Cade Griffitts
"I was severely disappointed that our last track meet was canceled. I had previously made a goal to place higher at state than I did the year prior and committed to that goal. I had spent a lot of time working toward it on the track and getting over a hurdle as much as I possibly could. To have that taken away was very sad. It was also the last activity that I could share with my friends here as well. It is super sad, but despite that I’ve kept working hard and running just for my own enjoyment.” – Katelyn Cathcart
"I was disappointed because track was my favorite school sport. I had some goals set in mind for myself with it being my senior year. I wanted to throw farther in discus and hopefully do some things at state, but I guess everything happens for a reason.” – Keely Ottersbach
