Indoor track Herders get ahead start on season in Casper at Natrona Invite
The day belonged to Megann Farley.
The standout senior broke the school indoor record in pole vault by six inches when she captured fifth place with a height of 8 feet, 6 inches last weekend in Casper.
The Glenrock High School indoor track & field team started practice just two short weeks ago and jumped right into battle at the first opportunity. The Herders took on eight other eager programs at the Natrona Invite in Casper with a laundry list of great starting marks and one historical performance.
It was the peak of a good debut for the eight Herders and had coach Chris Gray thrilled with the opening weekend.
“I have four boys and four girls right now. We are lead by Megann Farley, a sprinter and vaulter, and Hayden Lythgoe in middle distance and triple jumper. They are the only two seniors,” Gray said. “In juniors, I have Jerica Zimmerle, a sprinter and long jumper. And sophomores, we have Michael Showengerdt in middle and long distance. Caden Tillard is a hurdler, sprinter and jumper, Jayden Pasko is a shot putter. And freshmen I have Maggie Halvorsen in middle and long distance and Jaden Reid, a sprinter and jumper.”
Lythgoe kicked off her farewell tour by placing sixth in the triple jump with a starting mark of 31-1. Tillard cleared his way to ninth in the 55-meter hurdles where he clocked 9.58 seconds.
“Maggie Halvorsen, Jerica Zimmerle, Michael Schowengerdt, Jayden Pasko and Braden Reid all competed hard, and we all are looking to improve at the meet in Gillette (this coming) week,” Gray said. “They have been working hard just to get into shape and hopefully by the end of the indoor season, they will be ready to go in the outdoor season. I’m still trying to get more bodies out but this is a great group to work with.”
