Margaret Farley has big plans as she steps into the role as the new vice president at the Douglas campus of Eastern Wyoming College, replacing Sue McBride who retired this spring.
For starters, she’d like to help students receive their degrees or certificates in as short as time as possible. This means providing an efficient road map by which to plan their course schedules.
“I am committed to offering support to all our students to ensure they are academically  successful,” she said.
She would also like to help those individuals who are currently displaced due to the economic downturn to find a pathway to success, either through retraining or degree completion by promoting a myriad of opportunities to refresh or learn new skills.
New this year is the nursing program, as well as the welding program, which was implemented last fall. Both offer excellent opportunities for career development, according to Farley.
“I am excited to be a part of our new nursing program here in Converse County,” she said. “We are offering CNA courses for college credit in both Douglas and Glenrock. Our welding program is another area where we can offer support for retraining or certificate completion.”
Farley would also like to continue to build strong relationships with local businesses in Converse County and community leaders in Douglas and Glenrock to strengthen EWC’s community college branch campuses.
“I feel fortunate to have an advisory council in place who is committed to the success of this campus.” she said. “I am also very grateful for the citizens of Converse County, who voted for the initiative to create this beautiful campus.”
In many ways, Farley was the ideal candidate to fill this role as she brings with her a wealth of experience.
Prior to accepting this position, Farley was the Glenrock community education director and outreach coordinator for Eastern Wyoming College for the past 12 years. She also has grant writing experience, which she considers a valuable trait for a director as the college continues navigating through these challenging economic times.
She also is a huge advocate for Wyoming and higher education in general.
Born and raised in Casper, Farley has lived in Glenrock for the past 24 years. She has a B.A. in political science and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Wyoming.
Currently, Farley is an education doctoral (Ed.D.) candidate in post secondary and adult education at the University of Wyoming.
Mainly, Farley is eager to continue her work helping students succeed in their academic goals.
“I am very grateful to have the opportunity to serve the students and potential students of Converse County and the surrounding areas,” she said.
