Exercise is a crucial part of life, and Converse County Aging Services Glenrock Senior Center is making sure their members are getting the exercise they need.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) found that for people age 65 and older, regular moderate to vigorous physical activity can immediately lead to improved sleep, decreased anxiety and lower blood pressure. And, in the long term it can have even more wide range effects on brain health, heart health, balance and more.

At the beginning of 2026 the senior center, located on Deer St. right next to Barber Apartments, began hosting their Weekly Wanders every Friday.

The seniors who’ve signed up for the walk board a bus and go to Edness Kimball Wilkins State Park. The idea initially was for the wanders to begin the summer of 2025, but at the time the center didn’t have enough vehicles to accommodate the need.

There, they disembark and either take off with fellow members, or by themselves, to explore and walk around the park for around an hour. Some even just sit on a park bench and enjoy the meditative act of sitting in outdoors and in nature. The variety is one thing that makes the activity special to member Janice Brandt.

“Even if you don’t wanna do the walk, they can sit at the picnic table for an hour.” Brandt said.

The walk lines up perfectly with the schedule for the rest of the day at the senior center. Once they get back from the 15 minute drive lunch is being served, so the members are able to partake in a good meal following some good exercise.

The walks are held every week at Edness Kimball, but that may be subject to change due to weather, according to center representatives.

If a member would like sign up for the Weekly Wander, they can do so at the senior center or call 307-436-9442.
