It was F. Scott Fitzgerald who said, “Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” That’s a feeling many of us share, the feeling that September is a new beginning of sorts. The new school year, the doorway into the holiday season, a time for new clothes, or warmer ones, an occasion to try out new cozy comforting recipes, and enjoy quiet nights at home in front of a fire. You can start to think about getting out the fall decorations, and even – a controversial subject – start ordering pumpkin spice lattes!
New to your library as well, we have stunning, scenic library cards in, just in time for “September – Library Card Sign-Up Month!”
Local library users entered their best photos for consideration in a contest this spring and the public voted! There are six designs, comprised of Wyoming’s beautiful skies and landscapes, as well as wildlife and ranch life. There were multiple categories: children, teens and adults. We had wonderful photos to choose from and it was a difficult task. We are grateful to everyone who took part!
The winning photos, turned into our new Converse County Library cards, are as follows:
• Ages 0-12: Frozen in Time, Elysebeth Paisley and Night Bolt, Luna St. Gelais
• Ages 13-18: Cattle Drive, Silas McDaniel and Sunset Over Converse County Kris Wolfley
• Ages 18-plus: Silent Sentinel, Erin Wolfley and Serenity Behind the Dam, Dusty Graham
Cards are free in September to new library card holders and for those who would like to replace their current card.
While cards are always free to new patrons, replacement cards are $2 at anytime other than in September. Simply stop in, bring in your picture ID and something to show you reside in Glenrock (a check, lease, bill, etc.), and we will get you your card. Parents do need to come in to fill out information for their children.
Since 1987, the ALA (American Library Association) has been sponsoring “Library Card Sign-up Month.” This year the theme is One Card, Endless Possibilities, and it couldn’t be more true!
Your library and ALA are working together to inspire both students and adults to get this important tool in their hand at the beginning of the new school year. A family can save hundreds of dollars on educational resources, services and entertainment by taking part in library activities, from free access to STEAM programs / activities, educational apps, in-person and virtual homework help – a library card is one of the most cost-effective back-to-school supplies available.
We are very excited to announce that your CCL will also soon be rolling out information as well on our Libraries to Business project, in conjunction with the University of Wyoming.
Wyoming Library to Business (WL2B) is a business-focused, community driven and completely free resource, based in your local library.
