The final sports season is officially underway in the land of the Herders with an emphatic beginning to track & field. Glenrock High School has its biggest team since head coach Heath Hayes arrived and the results are already paying off.

The biggest of the two was over the weekend with the first of a rare four home events. The Converse County boys and girls  hosted 4A Cheyenne South March 27 and unleashed a stunning 75 personal bests to win both team duals.

It was a team sweep for Glenrock. The boys defeated the Bison 79-51 and the girls came out on top 79-26.

The list of achievements and milestones is lengthy. Among them was the 4x100 relay of Carson Tomlin, Korbian Hill, Easton Sivage and Brady Dona who delivered an auto-qualifying State time and first-place finish of 45.51 seconds.

Also on the boys side, freshman Easton Sivage was fantastic in the 200m where he ran away with first in 24.62 seconds, nearly a full second ahead of Cheyenne South. Junior Ayden Lamb had a good day as well and posted a third-place time of 25.38.

Lamb was the best in pole vault where he took first with a height of 10 feet, 6 inches. Sophomore Wes Holman held off the Bison to take second at 7-6.

Dona unleashed a fantastic start to his farewell tour and won long jump when he soared 18-3, nearly nine inches ahead of Cheyenne South. Freshman Ethan Stanfield was the top Herder in triple jump when he landed third at 34;7.5.

Junior Caden Tillard cleared his way to second in 300m hurdles when he came through in 44.33 seconds. Senior Preston Sorenson wasn’t far back at 44.79.

Williams had his time to shine in shot put where he launched first place with a throw of 38-9, just ahead of sophomore Brady Calmes in second at 37-7.

Sophomore Korbian Hill was impressive in the 100m where he captured second in 11.79 seconds, a near photo-finish behind Cheyenne South at 11.75.

“The track team is in full swing starting off with a meet over spring break at Kelly Walsh where we had 51 new personal-best performances for the Herders In those performances, we had three-ticket punching performances  for the State – Brady Dona (100, 200) and Haiden Ward (high jump),” Hayes said. “That meet was followed up by a dual with Cheyenne South. The dual provided us with 75 new and improved personal-best records.”

On the girls’ side of the ledger, junior Sheridan Sarvey unleashed a first-place discus throw of 99-9. Freshman Marly Haskell was the best Herder in shot put where she conquered second with mark of 29-10.5, while senior Caitilyn Williams took third at 26-2.

On the oval, Glenrock had the top three 200m sprinters. Senior Emma Seestie captured first when she stopped the watch in 30.52, just ahead of senior Malorey Lawrence at 31.14 and senior Riley McCluer in 32.35.

The Herders also had the fastest sprinter when freshman Michelle Bishop won the 100m in 14.24 seconds, holding off Cheyenne South at 14.58.

“We will continue to try and have as many options as possible for relays especially. Young and old, no experience or lots of experience on the track, these kids are working very hard and have been a lot of fun,” Hayes praised.
