For the eighth consecutive year, Wyoming high school graduation rates rose during the 2020 – 2021 year, topping more than 82 percent of students across the state completing their high school education.

Comparatively, the class of 2013 saw a graduation rate of only 77.6 percent, according to the Wyoming Department of Education.

Glenrock Schools (Converse County School District No. 2) saw a graduation rate of 94 percent during the 2020 – 2021 academic year, making the top 10 among school districts in the state.

During the 2019 – 2020 school year, the district experienced a graduation rate of 92.3 percent, according to the state education department. Therefore, Glenrock saw an increase of 1.7 percent last school year over the 2019 – 2020 academic year.

The percentage of high school girls graduating from Glenrock High School in 2021 was 100 percent: 26 of the 26 enrolled. Additionally, the number of homeless students graduated at 100 percent, two out of two, according to the Wyoming Department of Education. Twenty-one of 24 Glenrock high school boys graduated last year, or 87.5 percent.

During the previous academic year, 90.9 percent of girls graduated and 94.1 percent of boys; one student considered homeless by the state education department did not graduate, according to the agency’s data.

Converse County School District 1 also saw improvement in the overall high school graduation rate for the 2020 – 2021 school year. The graduation rate among Douglas students rose from 85.2 percent in 2019 – 2020 to 87.5 for the 2020 – 2021 academic year, approximately 2.3 percent.

“I give credit to the staff at Glenrock Junior/Senior High School because I know they are working hard to have personal conversations to make sure that kids are on track and engaged,” said Coley Shadrick, Converse County School District #2 Superintendent. “They're just not letting kids fall behind. They're immediately getting involved, to be proactive to ensure those kids walk across the stage. The staff are having conversations with kids in the eighth grade and nineth grades to put them on the path for classes geared towards what they want do in terms of a career. I think that alignment of ‘What do you want do?’ and ‘Here's the path’ is engaging kids to be a lot more focused and take it (education and graduation) a lot more seriously.”

The Wyoming Department of Education released last year’s graduation rates earlier this month.
