Thief pries post office lockers open, steals U.S. mail

The Glenrock Police Department is working jointly with U.S. Postal Inspectors to catch the individual or individuals behind the
recent thefts of packages from parcel lockers at the Glenrock Post Office.
The vandalism and thefts were reported to GPD May 8 and it is believed the crime took place May 6-7, GPD Chief Colter Felton said May 11.
“We were made aware of the lockers being broken into and we are jointly investigating the break in and thefts with postal inspectors,” Felton said.
A flyer in the post office alerted residents that the use of the parcel lockers would be temporarily suspended, “due to vandalism and theft of packages.”
“It was discovered that numerous parcel lockers were pried open and packages stolen. While this issue is investigated and repairs performed we will not be delivering parcels to lockers. 
“We apologize for any inconveniece and if anyone has any information related to this issue of vandalism and theft, please contact the Glenrock Police Department,” Glenrock Postmaster Justin Cloward said in the posted message.
Tampering or stealing U.S. mail is a federal offense under U.S. Code 18, Section 1708.
If the perpetrators of this crime are caught they will likely face up to five years in federal prison and fines up to $250,000.
Chief Felton said if anyone is missing packages they can check with post officer personnel to see if their items were placed in one of the parcel lockers during the time period the thefts took place. If that is the case, then a police report can be filed at GPD, he said.
“The post office should have notified everyone who may have had somthing in there,” he said.
