Life is slowly getting back to normal in Converse County and across Wyoming, including in Glenrock as the rec center begins the transition.

With Gov. Mark Gordon’s new orders on Thursday allowing the reopening of gyms, along with businesses such as hair salons and others May 1, Wyomingites may begin focusing on their physical health outside of their homes again.

The governor’s orders have allowed the Glenrock Recreation Center to open up its weight and cardio rooms to the public for the first time since the novel coronavirus struck the state nearly two months ago, according to aquatics manager Jamie Pinkerton.

The rec center must follow certain public health guidelines to protect workers and guests. The guidelines will limit the number of individuals in each room to nine or less, the continued closure of locker rooms, and staff will be required to wear protective face coverings.

“This plan takes into account the continued safety of our citizens and establishes a process to consider some case-by-case exceptions to state health orders when appropriate,” Gov. Gordon said. “It is important that we do not surrender the ground we have taken and that we extend our gains against this virus.”

The pool will remain closed until at least May 15, depending on the governors orders and the school district’s approval. If the pool opens, the ban on crowds of 10 or more would also need to be lifted in order for Pinkerton to run the swimming lessons planned for the end of this month.

The weight and cardio rooms have not been especially busy, but have seen regulars return, Pinkerton said.

The hours will be similar to the summer schedule, open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, but will be closed on Saturday and Sunday.

Gov. Gordon is expected to hold a press conference May 15 on whether or not the public health order prohibiting the gathering of 10 or more people will be lifted or extended.
