The three-time defending state champions Lady Wright Panthers beckoned the Lady Herders in tournament play at the Douglas invite last weekend. The Lady Herders were undefeated in pool play the prior day with a 3-0 record to earn the third seed in bracket play.

The Wright game proved to be a pivotal moment for the Lady Panthers in their first action of the new season. The Lady Herders fell to the Lady panthers 25-16, 25-19.

It was trial by fire as the Herd battled valiantly against one of the best teams in the state, but came up short.

The Herders squared off against Torrington in the following match, regaining the momentum they’d captured in the first day of play, beating Torrington 25-18, 25-21.

The Torrington victory set up a showdown with the Cody Broncs for the right to claim fifth. The Lady Herders fell to the Broncs 23-25, 25-21, 15-10, landing them in sixth for the invite.

Next, the Herd will travel to the prestigious Gillette invite Sept. 1 to compete with 29 teams\ from Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming.
