The house lights flickered. Once, twice, three times. The audience went to their seats and before they knew it, the Glenrock High School theater department took to the stage at the Glenrock Intermediate School for their fall musical.
The students put on Murder at Crimson House, a musical spoof on classic whodunit murder mysteries. The cast of 19 held two shows, Oct. 23 and Oct. 24. It took every member of the on-stage cast, the technicians, backstage support, makeup and directors to make the show go on. The show directors were Debra Rademacher and Brandon Fife.
“We were really nervous but we did really good and I think that we lived up to our full potential,” senior Brennah Mayland said.
Mayland played the maid in the show. Before taking the stage, everyone gathered together in the dressing room to shake out the nerves, eat pizza and prepare. The cast warm ups were led by senior Jossilyn Miller, who played Hercules Porridge in the show. Even for the actors who’ve spent years doing drama, there are still nerves before stepping on the stage.
“You’re like ‘oh gosh, there’s people out there,’ you’re scared, your knees are going to give out, oh no! Once you get out there and give your first line it’s like okay, nobody’s throwing tomatoes at me,” Miller said.
Several members of the cast were excited to perform Tim Kelly’s show purely for the opportunity to sing. Murder at Crimson House was the first musical the Glenrock Theater has done since 2016 when they did Peter Pan according to Miller.
The performance has come and gone, the sets have been taken down and repurposed. But the Murder at Crimson House will live on forever in the hearts and minds of everyone involved.
