The energy was high, and so were the riders, who at times looked like they were trying to jump right out of the Ford Grandstands Arena.

Octane Addictions made their return to the Wyoming State Fair Aug. 12 to the screaming of fans, as the five daredevil performers took their turns with death-defying aerial maneuvers.  The turnout wasn’t quite as high as last year’s show, but a mob of fans could still be seen at the front railing oohing and aahing.

“With the pandemic and everything going on, it was a great job by (WSF Director) Courtny (Conkle) and Reba (Sundseth) with the show,” Octane Addictions Owner Tyler Johnson said. “We were super excited to be able to come back and perform, and it was neat to see everyone social distancing and following the governor’s orders.”

Johnson’s five riders (Anthony Murray, Travis Cady and X-Games bronze medalist Willie Elam, Dominic Bellino and bronze medalist Brian McCarty) warmed the crowd up with a freestyle, before competing with the crowd crowning the winner. The group finished off with team tricks, with each rider jumping after the previous stunt man, leaving three of them in the air at once.

The company, based in Bozeman, Montana, lost out on dozens of events due to COVID-19. The company is seeing more interest after the success they had in Douglas, Johnson said.

“Our event in Wyoming was like our statement that we’re going to stick to our guns and do this. We had some people who were on the fence in terms of booking us headed into last week, but I think after seeing how the fair and our other event in Montana went, they’re ready to roll.”
