TRICKS OR TREATS?

Our book sale is back! As a special treat for our friends, our “Booktober” sale will run Oct. 1-31 in the Magenta Room on the lower level of the Glenrock Library. To allow for social distancing, we’ll keep track of how many patrons are shopping at a time. The sale of books is by donation only.

BANNED BOOK WEEK

Sept. 27- Oct. 3 is National Banned Book Week, when libraries across the nation emphasize how crucial it is to make sure we have free access to printed books.

We have designed some activities for our Beanstack App especially for Banned Book Week, so be sure to check that out, and have some fun with trivia and information on why certain books have been deemed unacceptable at different times in history. We’ll also have information available about banned books in the library and featured displays.

HALLOWEEN FUN

Oct. 1, from 6-8 p.m., we have a festive fall craft event for adults on Zoom. We will be creating a decorative sugar pumpkin painted to look like a giant caramel apple. Please register by Wednesday, Sept. 30 so you can receive your Zoom invitation and craft kit.

The class is free. The kit will contain a pumpkin, paint, a brush, a wooden dowel and a coffee filter.

Be sure to sign up for our exciting Pumpkin Carving Zoom class with Master Pumpkin Carver Barry Brown on Oct. 5 from 6-8 p.m.

Brown is a celebrity in Denver, Colorado, where he is chosen yearly to design gorgeous displays in upscale hotels and throughout the city. He will be broadcasting the Zoom class live from a theme park outside of Branson, Missouri, where he showcases his work and teaches classes every October.

You will choose your pumpkin to Barry’s specifications and the library will provide a pattern and a special tool kit selected by Brown himself — the same ones he uses to create his masterpieces.

This class is suitable for all ages, but we ask that children under 12 are working with an adult.

KIDS’ EVENTS

We have Storytime for Kids live on Facebook every Wednesday at 10 a.m., as well as Storytime on Demand Tuesdays through Saturdays with Miss Rita for individual families.

Beginning on Mondays, kids can get a new craft DIY kit to take home and complete.

There are special events happening weekly for teens, including Thursday Board Game  Night and Friday Night Dungeons and Dragons meet ups.

October will be full of fun events for families, too, so keep checking our website and Facebook pages for updates.

STOP BY

We invite you to stop in and check out new books, movies, audiobooks, magazines and more. You can take a language class or learn a new skill via our wide range of databases, either here in the library or from home. Just ask a librarian if you’d like to learn more about using our databases and online learning opportunities.
