Following months of tenacity and perseverance, a pair of Herders made it to the podium at the Wyoming State Wrestling Championships Saturday.

Haydan Huyser placed second at 182 pounds following the first-place match against Landon Walker of Cokeville. Huyser finished his junior year with a record of 31-9.

Dusty Cox placed fourth at 170 by pinning Colten Smith of Wright in his weekend finale.

The Herders finished 15 out of 21 teams with 48.5 points.

“I was really pleased with their effort and in what we felt we accomplished,” coach Coley Wondra said. “We were just excited, I mean, we’ve worked all year long for these two days, so I think excited is probably the best word.”

As the Herders head into the off-season, Wondra wants the team to keep in shape.

“We’re just going to try and work as much as we can,” Wondra said. “Try and get more experience in wrestling and spend some time in the weight room and get stronger, just be ready to compete next year.”
