Forty pieces of art –  created by Glenrock students – were submitted to the 53rd Wyoming State High School Art Symposium competition in Casper and several of the Herder artists brought home six blue ribbons out of those entries April 24.

Students who placed first are Hope Rau, for her acrylic painting Mother Earth; Jessica Potter- for her charcoal piece, Words Behind My Life; Sage Preston, for her acrylic work, A Handsome Lad; Zach Coleman, for his colored pencils and pastel work, Battle of the Trilogies; Aiyanna Jaime for her original painting, Sky Woman; and Kyrie Tiensvold for her acrylic work, Desert Serenity.

Only 25 pieces of art are selected for blue ribbons out of all statewide entries received, said Glenrock High School art teacher Chelsea Schulz.

“State Art was for ninth through twelfth graders who talked to me and wanted to participate. It typically happens the last weekend in April (and) is always hosted at the event center in Casper. Set up and judging was last Thursday, Friday was open to the public so we took students to see all the artwork,” she said.

“The Wyoming Art Symposium is such a great event that happens every year. I participated in state art when I was in high school, so now it is awesome to be able to take my art students and share the experience with them. It is a great place for our students to exhibit their artwork that they have worked so hard on. I am so proud of all our students , we had so many excellent pieces of art that we took this year,” Schulz said.

The following students submitted artwork to the state art competition: Settera Hoskinson, Rau, Potter, Jaime, Preston, Elizabeth Mosley, Andrea Goetz, Heather Ware, Coleman, Savanna Mitchell, Tate Wise, Emma Jenkins, Bryant Svrko, Tiensvold, Gabe Georgius, Sydnie Johnson.
