COVID-19 has closed the doors of Glenrock’s schools starting today, March 16.

The district announced the closure Sunday evening via a social media post. The closure is a direct result of recommendations made by Governor Mark Gordon and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jillian Balow, who said earlier in the day all schools should consider remaining closed to students through at least April 3.

District superintendent Coley Shadrick said CCSD2 is following the governor’s  and Balow’s suggestions and Glenrock’s schools would close through April 5.

He was in a webinar with the Wyoming Department of Education this morning “to get some answers and direction as we move forward.

“Administrators and department heads will be meeting later today to begin planning for food services and instructional opportunities we want to provide for students. There are more questions than answers at this point, but information will be shared with stakeholders as we get it. In the meantime, please keep your children safe and maintain a focus on their health,” Shadrick said.

The coronavirus has caused widespread closures of not only schools across the state, but cancellations of concert tours, theme parks, community get-togethers, basically any and all large-scale public gatherings of more than 50 people to help prevent the spread of the virus person-to-person.

High school sporting events – including 4A and 3A state basketball championships, were cancelled in Casper March 12 and will not be rescheduled.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is aggressively responding to the global outbreak of COVID-19 and preparing for the potential of community spread in the United States.

Preventative measures include staying six feet away from other people, washing hands often for 20 seconds or longer, and disinfecting things touched often around homes, businesses, schools, and vehicles.

Three cases of COVID-19 were identified and confirmed in Wyoming in the last several days. One person is in quarantine at Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas. MHCC officials said they’re waiting for results of the patient’s testing to either confirm or deny the presence of COVID-19.
