There’s an almost tangible feel of excitement in the air in town lately as the anticipation for Deer Creek Days grows.

It’s literally just days away. The annual event is June 25-27 and is one festival the community has looked forward to for a long time – two years, to be exact – being as the 2020 gathering was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The scheduled list of activities is extensive and offers up family friendly activities as well as specific venues for children, and for adults.

Glenrock Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kristy Grant said there’s several new events added to the roster of regulars, including the Stray Gathering on Friday night June 25 at South Rec; a two-man, long range shooting competition for ages 18-and-up will take place on Sunday, and, the chamber is bringing back the talent show, a definite favorite.

“People would say at times that Deer Creek Days wasn’t like the old days. I’d ask why, they’d say they missed the talent show, so we are bringing it back on Friday night. It will be an outdoor event on the stage on Birch Street. The opening event is at 5 p.m. and the talent show is right after that,” Grant said. “We’re all so excited, it’s going to be a really great time this year. I think it was disappointing for businesses last year and hard for them without the financial boon Deer Creek Days brings, but it couldn’t be helped. There’s a lot of interaction going on between people on social media, lots of questions. People are definitely excited for Deer Creek Days this year.”

Grant said there will, “once again be a gospel concert in Town Park at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night. It’s a highlight for the community, a chance to enjoy a nice, family-friendly event, take a preview of the craft fair, enjoy seeing the vendors and listen to the music.”

The Converse Hope Center is sponsoring a Kid Zone in park Saturday, June 26, from noon to 5 p.m., with a giant slip’n’slide, sack races every 30 minutes, face painting and all types of games and interactive activities for kids.

There will be other crowd favorites, too: the parade, mutton bustin’, a ranch rodeo, car show, mud volleyball, team roping, a golf tourney, 5k run from one end of town to the other, heaps of live music with Tris Munsick Friday night, Shots Fired Saturday night and Chad Lore on Sunday, street dances, brew fest and so much more.

“I love to see crowds of people out having a good time, to see the little kids dancing during the street dances, see the parade. It’s a chance to see people you don’t see every day. It brings the community together,” Grant said.
