NEW ART EXHIBITS

The Converse County libraries in Glenrock and Douglas each have a new art exhibit in place or coming soon for the new year!

In Glenrock it’s Barn Here! – a photography show highlighting picturesque and historical barns around Wyoming. It’s curated by the Wyoming Historic Preservation Office and is made possible by Wyoming Humanities.

It may not be widely known, but the barns in our Cowboy State can differ greatly in style and function from barns in many other parts of the U.S. Stop in to peruse this fascinating exhibit and find out why that is! It will be on display in the CCL Glenrock through March.

The Douglas Library will soon welcome a glorious interactive exhibition by contemporary fine art photographer Adrien Broom, titled A Colorful Dream. It will be shown Jan. 28 through March 16 at the library and you won’t want to miss it!

ADULT ACTIVITIES

Upcoming adult activities and events at our libraries include our rescheduled Third Thursday Craft Circle, postpone because of inclement weather last week, to Jan. 25 from 6-8 p.m. in the Quiet Reading Room in Douglas. We have members who knit, crochet, cross stitch, needlepoint, spin, tat, needlefelt and more! Bring a project from home and join us for this cozy group, or come and learn a new skill from one of our members.

In Glenrock on Jan. 29, our Food for Thought Cookbook Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. for an early “February” get-together featuring a potluck meal and a sharing of delicious recipes. The theme this month, as a practice run for Super Bowl parties, will be appetizers for dinner. This is one of our favorite themes!

We will round out the first month of 2024 with one of our popular mixology classes co-sponsored by The College Inn at the Douglas Library Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. The theme of this class is The Year of the Dragon, the 2024 Chinese New Year symbol. This class is for those age 21 and over only. Interested parties should sign up prior to class at 358-3644, or email tlehner@conversecountylibrary.org

The same class will be held at the Glenrock Library Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. (sign up at 436-2573 or the email listed above).

Then, we are bringing a little of the magic of Mardi Gras to Converse County with an Adult Shoebox Float Building Class & Contest at the Glenrock Library Jan. 31 at 6 p.m.

Bring your own shoebox and sign up ahead of time. We will have some generic paper and decorations, but if you have a specific theme planned for your float, you may wish to bring some of your own embellishments. The completed floats will be left on display at the library for patrons to vote on, with small prizes for the winner and runner-up.

The Douglas class will be held on Mardi Gras (or Fat Tuesday), Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. Please sign up in advance.

VALENTINE MARKET

We are excited to host the second annual county-wide Love Local Valentine Market (craft and vendor fair) to highlight the local talent around our small town.

The fair will be at the CCL Glenrock Saturday, Feb. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. We have over 40 vendors coming, and there are special events in conjunction with the event all over town! The New Ashley’s Gift Shop will also have craft booths, there will be free ice skating at Town Square and more.

Our quote this week is a musing on winter and cold by Lewis Carroll: “I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says, ‘Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again.’”
